Have you ever found beauty in the unexpected, and realized that art can appear anywhere?
New York City has always felt like home to me. It is where I grew up, where my father worked, and where I spent part of my school years. It's streets hold layers of memory for me—and an endless capacity for surprise.
My dear lifelong friend Annie is a gifted writer and an avid walker who often encounters unusual pieces of art embedded in the sidewalks of New York. At my request, she began photographing these unexpected discoveries and has been sending them to me. Sidewalk Talk #1 is the first work inspired by that collection within the Reclaimed Series.
Created with colored pencil, airbrushed acrylic inks, acrylic markers, and collage, this mixed media work on paper places you directly in the moment of discovery. The sidewalk is reclaimed from something purely functional and anonymous into a place for expression. Against its worn surface, the simple work "BE" becomes both an observation and an invitation: to pause, to be present, and to notice the art that appears in the most unexpected places.
