In Southern California, Autumn is something we mostly imagine. Theses are leaves gathered on a walk by a friend who lives where the seasons still turn dramatically. She photographed them and from that image I created this drawing, a collection of leaves I never personally stepped on, yet somehow still experienced.
The Reclaimed Series explores objects that have been left behind or overlooked, weathered structures, abandoned places, found remnants. Here, the subject is more fragile. These leaves were never mine, never local, and never permanent. They arrived as a memory, traveled as an image, and now exist as a drawing.
What was temporary in nature becomes lasting in observation.
