Haleiwa Still Life was inspired by a small but tender moment. My great-nephew picked a piece of fruit and a single hibiscus flower for his mother as a Mother's Day gift. I was struck by the sincerity of the gesture and wanted to preserve that feeling in a quiet, intimate composition.
The piece became both a technical and personal challenge, combining colored pencil with airbrushed acrylic inks to capture the transparency of glass, reflected light, and the delicacy of the flower.
