Trying to Fill David's Shoes - Open Edition Fine Art Giclée Print | Reclaimed Series
Open edition
The hardest shoes to fill are the ones left by someone you love.
This piece was created in memory of my lifelong best friend, David Friedman, an abstract expressionist artist. Our families were close before we were even born, and we remained friends throughout our lives.
David always wore his "Chucks" Converse sneakers. Instead of painting his likeness, I chose to draw his own shoes, worn, familiar, and unmistakably his. The background is based on one of David's own abstract paintings, allowing his artistic voice to remain present within the work.
Created from my original colored pencil artwork, this museum-quality archival giclée preserves a remembrance rather than a traditional portrait. The shoes stand in for the person, while the vibrant colors behind them reflect the energy David brought to his art and the world.
