When I return to visit, the boats and water are familiar, but my relationship to the place has changed. I had to move away unexpectedly, not by choice, and much of my family still live there.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis dory became a symbol of that experience, something anchored yet drifting in memory.  Suspended in dark water and reflected light, the boat exists between presence and recollection.  It suggests that places can remain vivid even as time and distance alter them.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eRendered entirely in colored pencil, the piece relies on layered color and reflected light rather than paint to create depth and atmosphere. The shimmering water contrasts with the quiet stillness of the boat, conveying both attachment and separation.
